This is the heart of West Sussex wine country and a mecca for connoisseurs. Beer and ale enthusiasts are also well catered for, with the excellent Hepworth and Greyhound Breweries both within 3 miles and producing a wide range of very good Sussex IPAs, ales and beers including gluten-free and vegan options. There are 2 good country pubs about a 20-minute walk across the fields; The Rising Sun in Nutbourne and the Queens Head in West Chiltington. For food supplies, the wonderful Dyke Farm Shop is a mile away, or take a stroll 5 minutes up the road to Crowell’s for their ‘cracking’ eggs. There is also a large Sainsbury’s and Tesco at Pulborough. For couples, this was ideal. Excellent location close to several vineyards. Wonderful local produce in nearby Dyke Farm Shop. Good for birdwatching, pottering around local towns and long country walks. Hosts very welcoming but also discreet. Plenty ofvreading matter on the shelves hence aptly named. A delight!
A well kept secret in West Sussex
Library Cottage is the perfect hideaway, tucked away in the depths of West Sussex. This was our second visit and it was just like home from home with a warm welcome from our hosts. The scenery on the South Downs is stunning and the seaside resorts have their own traditional attractions like the pier at Eastbourne and holiday rock at Bognor. All in all, a delightful week.
Summer at Library Cottage
We made a very last minute booking for a short break in Sussex to visit the Knepp Estate to spot the Purple Emperors, and it was perfect. The cottage itself is well equipped, spacious, warm, and very comfortable. We loved sitting in our own garden enjoying the flowers and wildlife, and Liz and Chris let us explore their beautiful garden. There are plenty of footpaths from the cottage, one leading to the local pub and vineyards. It's an ideal location for exploring the many villages, the Knepp Estate and the South Downs. Liz and Chris were very friendly and welcoming, and made us feel at home. After long days on our butterfly quests, the cottage was the perfect retreat and we would love to return! Highly recommended, we wished we could have stayed for longer. Thank you Liz and Chris.
