Description

A short walk from the city centre, Wickland Cottage sits on a quiet street lined with Victorian townhouses. Laid out across three storeys and furnished in style, this luxurious holiday rental in Chichester offers a generous feeling of space and a warm welcome from the soft-toned décor.

The open plan living space reveals a comfortable lounge area, with sofas gathered around a wood burning stove and a Smart TV next to the shuttered bay window. The dining table provides plenty of room for five plus a highchair, leading to a fully loaded kitchen fitted with all appliances including a Nespresso coffee machine. There is also a small utility area to the rear with dishwasher, washing machine and separate WC.

On the first floor, a unique collection of artwork and prints decorate the walls with local heritage scenes. Bedroom One is a spacious king-size with desk/dressing table, Bedroom Two a pretty single, and there is also a great family bathroom with double end bath and separate shower. Heading up to the second floor, Bedroom Three is another serene king-size. A window to the south side bathes the room in sunlight, while Velux windows to the north offer glimpses over the rooftops to Chichester Cathedral spire and all the way to Goodwood Racecourse and the Trundle.

Outside, the south-facing rear garden has a patio with table and chairs and a lawn to enjoy balmy summer BBQs. Behind the garden there is also free private parking with just enough space for two cars, a feature rarely available so close to the centre of this Roman city. Wickland Cottage is perfect for a weekend self-catering break to explore West Sussex and the South Downs, or for a longer short let stay for work or those between house moves. See the ‘House info’ section for more information about this family-friendly holiday cottage with free private parking in Chichester, West Sussex.

Local area

The centre of Chichester is an easy 10-minute stroll. Petite and cosmopolitan, this ancient city is draped in history including the majestic cathedral and the fantastically preserved Roman walls. A myriad of listed buildings line the four main streets that converge at the Cross, with many excellent independent stores ranging from boutique clothing and beauty salons to cafes and coffee houses, along with a wide range of pubs, restaurants and high street shops. There are several large supermarkets all within a 10-minute drive.

Chichester is a cultural treasure trove, with the renowned Festival Theatre just north of the centre offering a variety of first-class productions, and several art galleries and museums including the fine Pallant House Gallery. Fishbourne Roman Palace is a short drive, and combined with a walk around the city walls it brings this fascinating period of British history to life. To the south, the beautiful Sussex coastline reveals the famous sandy beach of West Wittering, along with Pagham, Bosham and Chichester Harbours. Just to the north the famous Goodwood Estate sits among the rolling hills of the South Downs, and offers an exciting calendar of events including the Festival of Speed, Goodwood Revival and Glorious Goodwood (Qatar Festival).

Our Stay at Wickland Cottage Worked Out Well

My sibling and I were in town from America to attend the funeral of a beloved family member. Wickland Cottage met our expectations for a clean, well located flat with modern amenities, ample room, and comfortable, nicely appointed furnishings. And, it was an easy stroll from the flat to access the main shopping/restaurants/pubs area of Chichester. We appreciated our stay at Wickland Cottage.

Enjoyed our week staying in this comfortable, cosy and well-equipped cottage

We very much enjoyed our week staying in this comfortable, cosy and well-equipped cottage. We were very pleased to light the log burner one evening. Good to be within walking distance of the city centre, and bus and train services. We enjoyed visits to Novium museum, Weald and Download Museum (Repair Shop), Petworth House and Brighton (Royal Pavilion). We followed a self-guided walking tour of the city (internet) which was very interesting and we walked the canal towpath to Chichester Marina. We also visited the lovely village of Bosham. Thank you for the wine, chocs and daffodils, very much appreciated!

Perfect base for an Easter break

Wickland Cottage is beautiful, with everything one might need and ideally situated a short stroll away from central Chichester. The private parking space is a huge bonus! We mostly stayed local, exploring the cathedral, Novium Museum, Bishops Palace Gardens. A short drive away to Fishbourne Roman Palace, RSPB Pagham Harbour and Chichester Golf Club. Plenty of great cafes & restaurants, including Muchos Nachos (Mexican) just a few minutes away! Thanks for providing such a lovely place to stay.
