Self catering accommodation in Lewes, East Sussex

Destination Lewes

Looking to visit Lewes? Surrounded by the beautiful South Downs National Park and close to miles of unspoilt coastline, Lewes is an enchanting market town full of history and mystery. Pretty cobbled streets lined with period architecture house an abundance of boutique shops, independent cafes, restaurants and bars.

The magnificent Lewes Castle, which overlooks the town, is open to visitors and sits proudly back from the main high street and a trip to Anne of Cleves House, left to her by Henry VIII as a settlement in their divorce, is also well worth the visit.

Lewes is famous for its firework and bonfire celebrations which are attended by thousands of visitors each year as a town is taken over by gunpowder, treason and plotting with a fancy-dress candlelight procession through the town. Harvey’s Brewery, which sits on the banks of the River Ouse, which flows through the lower part of town, has played an integral part in Lewes’ heritage. Brewing since 1820, it produces a wide range of highly respected award-winning ales and beers.

Further afield, you have the choice of visiting the dramatic Sussex coastline around Seaford or the cosmopolitan city of Brighton with its lively and vibrant atmosphere or perhaps spend a day out at one of the many historical, cultural or family attractions. Take a ride on a steam locomotive at The Bluebell Railway, catch an opera at Glyndebourne House or perhaps feed the penguins at Drusillas Zoo.

Active or relaxed; however you like to spend your holiday, we’ve made it easy to find the right self catering accommodation in Lewes and the surrounding area.
